At the physical boundary where mechanical cutting cannot reach, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) provides an alternative material removal logic. When a mold structure features deep narrow slots, sharp internal corners, or complex irregular cavities, traditional milling tools will deflect and deform due to insufficient rigidity. The essence of the AgieCharmilles EDM machine lies in utilizing the localized thermal effect of pulse discharge to erode metal. Since there is no macroscopic cutting force between the electrode and the workpiece throughout the process, the geometric shape of the electrode can be replicated onto the tool steel without deviation, completely resolving the blind spots of mechanical machining.

The so-called "mirror-finish" EDM's micro-mechanism does not rely on abrasive cutting, but on the extreme control of discharge energy. In the finishing stage, the system uses nanosecond-level ultra-short pulses, compressing the energy of a single discharge to an absolute minimum. This micro-discharge forms an extremely thin and uniform recast layer (white layer) on the workpiece surface, directly reducing surface roughness to a polished level. It is precisely by relying on this polish-free micro-molding capability that we can stably manufacture molds and spare parts for blow molding machines, filling machines, and labeling equipment that are compatible with brands such as Sidel, Krones, KHS, and Tetra Pak, ensuring the inner cavity walls do not cause material adhesion or flow resistance under high-speed fluid flushing.

From a process chain perspective, the core value of mirror-finish EDM lies in eliminating the intervention of manual polishing by toolmakers. Conventional machined surfaces often require manual grinding to reduce roughness, but manual operations inevitably destroy the original geometric datum machined by CNC, leading to localized R-angle distortion or flatness degradation. AgieCharmilles merges "complex structural molding" and "surface finishing" into one, avoiding tolerance loss caused by human factors and locking the final geometric tolerances of the mold strictly within the closed-loop of EDM.
